How to Apply

 

Complete the online application. (*note: KickStart VT is exclusively for students teams currently in the Incubator program*.

Selection Process

 

A panel of Apex Center staff reviews and ranks all submissions using set evaluation criteria.
Top-ranked student teams will:

  • Pitch live at the next KickStart VT event (3-minute pitch + 5-minute Q&A).

Award Process

  • The judges award funding and give real time feedback.

  • Grants of $2,500 (per event total) are awarded directly to student accounts.

  • KickStart is not a pitch competition—it’s milestone-based funding to help you take the next step in moving your startup forward.

Important Details

  • Exclusively open to current Virginia Tech students only currently in the Incubator program (Hokie Passport number required).

  • KickStart funding cannot be used for:

    • Travel (see Venture Founders)

    • One-time/promotional events (see Venture Founders)

    • Office/business space purchase, rent, or renovation

    • Non-core equipment (e.g., laptops, cell phones)

    • Salaries

    • Ventures involving tobacco, drugs, adult entertainment, or anything deemed harmful to public health
